HISTORY

Introduced in 1999, the 360 Modena replaced the acclaimed F355 and quickly proved itself as a worthy successor. Soon after, the Challenge variant debuted—a track-focused, stripped-down version of the Modena, allowing entry into Ferrari’s Challenge race series. For enthusiasts seeking the enhanced driving dynamics of a more circuit-oriented 360, but still with some road-friendly characteristics, the Challenge Stradale was launched in 2003.

The Challenge Stradale boasted an additional 25 horsepower over the Modena and could trim an impressive 3.5 seconds off the lap time of its road-focused counterpart at Fiorano. A host of high-spec features, including carbon ceramic disc brakes from the flagship Enzo, contributed to its superior roadholding. Enhancements to the engine and drivetrain improved throttle response and driver engagement. However, the most significant improvement over the Modena was a rigorous weight reduction, resulting in the Challenge Stradale being 110 kilograms lighter than the standard road car. In total, only 1,288 examples of the Challenge Stradale were built.

OUR Challenge Stradale

Our Challenge Stradale was delivered new by Ferrari Gohm in Singen, Germany, on the 6th of December 2003, to its first German owner, resident in Jettingen. The Ferrari was specified in the very rare color of Rosso Fiorano, a stunning shade of dark metallic red, over a red and black Tessuto interior. According to the Challenge Stradale registry, only four Challenge Stradale were made in Rosso Fiorano, making it an incredibly rare specification. The Challenge Stradale enjoyed time in Germany, Italy, and Monaco before coming back to Germany, having had an owner in Berlin and for the past two years now in the region of Munich. The Ferrari has always been well maintained and cared after, with the following services stamped on the original Tessera di Garranzia:

  • 11.2006 – ineco, 40.180km
  • 02.2009 – Scuderia Baldini, Cambelt service, 42.600km

  • 01.2019 – Autoservice Mauro Capuozzo, Cambelt service, 51.192km
  • 03.2021- Autoservice Mauro Capuozzo, 51.803km
  • 02.2022 – Rebello Racing, Cambelt service, 53.149km
  • 10.2022 – RetroSportiva GmbH, Cambelt service, 54.254km
  • 07.2024 – RetroSportiva GmbH, 55.279km

The sparkplugs were changed in October 2022 by RetroSportiva GmbH, who also renewed several other parts for a total cost of 7.500 EUR.

Today, this rare Rosso Fiorano Challenge Stradale presents in good overall condition considering the mileage and is mechanically ready to go on several further driving adventures. One of the most intoxicating Ferrari’s to drive, thanks to the Motorsport pedigree which can be felt through the Formula-One-inspired transmission and the incredible noise from the V8 (which is in our opinion the best sounding Ferrari V8 to ever be made). The Challenge Stradale is one of the collector car market’s best kept secrets. Don’t sleep on this one!
