HISTORY
The DTM race series is one of the most important and exciting series globally representing the pinnacle of European touring car racing. Launched in 1984 as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft, and initially attracting privateers under FIA Group A regulations, by the late 1980’s works teams were increasingly dominant, in turn propelling DTM to become one of the most popular series in Europe. In 1993 the adoption of FIA Class 1 Touring Car regulations liberalised the regulations and introduced a raft of technology which were banned from Formula 1 at the time including ABS, four-wheel drive, electronic driver aids and carbon chassis.
Following a hiatus after the 1996 season the series returned in 2000 as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, the name it retains today, racing prototype silhouette racing cars based on mass-production road cars of the era. Thanks to the involvement of Opel, Mercedes-Benz and Abt Sportsline the relaunched series was an immediate success.
The 2019 season introduced a significant technical change to the series in the form of turbocharged, 4-cylinder, 2-litre engines, in some ways harking back to the earlier days of DTM and the 1989 season. Simultaneously, Mercedes-Benz withdrew from DTM, making way for R-Motorsport to run four Aston Martin branded cars. In fewer than 100 days the Aston Martin team were able to field a car thanks to the legendary Mercedes-Benz affiliated HWA team. The newly compliant two litre engine produced circa 650 horsepower, paired with a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox, pushrod operated suspension and carbon fibre discs.
The team also took on two former HWA drivers, Paul di Resta and Daniel Juncadella, to bring valuable DTM experience to the new team. These two seasoned drivers were paired with two younger talents in the shape of Jake Dennis and Ferdinand von Habsburg. By the first race at Hockenheim in May this new team had not only a brand-new car, built with the knowhow of HWA but also a driver line up with depth, experience and youth.

Sadly, the R-Motorsport team didn’t continue with their HWA developed Aston Martin’s for the following season, leaving this car as a fascinatingly short chapter of DTM history, nevertheless the HWA technical development and Aston Martin brand make it a uniquely intriguing collectible today.
In 2024 chassis V38-063 was acquired by the current custodian directly from HWA. Today the car is complete with an extensive spares package including a spare engine, spare gearbox, second set of wheels and tyres, carbon fibre brake discs, dampers, and carbon fibre front undertray, leaving the next owner with the possibility of being able to run and maintain the car in the future.
The car has already been invited to participate at FuoriConcorso at Lake Como in 2024 and would undoubtedly be a welcome invitee at many international events both on and off the circuit.
