HISTORY
Every example of Mercedes-Benz’s 300 (W188) series was built to order, with craftsmen finishing the bodies and trim to the exacting specifications of each buyer and ensuring world class build quality. As the most expensive car in Mercedes-Benz’s sales brochure of the era it was built in tiny numbers and fabulously expensive when new. Already a technically advanced car, the final ‘Sc’ itineration of the 300 series featured Bosch mechanical fuel injection derived from the 300 SL to increase power to 173 HP. The bodies were designed by Hermann Ahrens who had worked at Mercedes-Benz between the wars, his design echoed some of the greatest pre-war models of Mercedes-Benz whilst moving the design into a distinctly post-war mould with concealed running boards and lines clearly influenced by aerodynamic design. In total only 53 examples of the Mercedes-Benz 300 Sc Roadster, representing approximately 25% of total production.

Chassis 500087 was delivered on the 15th February 1957 to Zurich, Switzerland. Originally ordered in its current colour combination of black over natural leather. The car remained in Switzerland until 1983 when it returned to its native Germany upon acquisition by noted Mercedes-Benz collector Mr Seekamp of Bremen. In 2000 the car passed to a second German owner, Mr Wührmann, of Bierden, southwest of Hamburg. Invoices from 2000 – 2005 show considerable investment in this period to sensitively recommission the car following its life in the collection of Mr Seekamp. Following 17 years of ownership Mr Wührmann sold the now refurbished car back to the Mr Seekamp, who therefore briefly owned the car a second time. in 2020 the car was acquired by the current owner who has stored it in his large private collection alongside an impressive array of post-war Mercedes-Benz models. The current owner has fitted an electronic power steering system; however this modification is fully reversible, and the original steering column accompanies the car. Today chassis 500087 boasts an extensive history file recording its life since 1983 and is offered with a fitted luggage set.
