Prior to 2010, only two road cars left the Ferrari factory with the privilege of wearing the title ‘Gran Turismo Omologato’, or GTO as it is known: the 250 GTO of 1962 and 288 GTO of 1984. Both models were produced to meet stringent homologation regulations at the time of their respective production. The prestigious nomenclature was exclusively reserved for the marque’s most inspirational, performance-oriented models, which have become some of Ferrari’s most collectible models.
In April of 2010, the 599 GTO resurrected this prestigious title. As many models in the past did, the 599 GTO sourced many cues from cutting-edge F1 engineering and technology. However, the 599 GTO was not truly a homologation model, it was developed directly from the 599XX prototype for use on the road. Several cooling and aerodynamic enhancements were made to increase downforce, including revised front and rear diffusers and a redesigned rear spoiler. Further improvements were made to the characteristics of the chassis by utilizing F1-Trac Traction control to reduce understeer and maximize responsiveness.
Ferrari housed an incredibly raw and furious sounding, naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V-12 engine and tweaked it to produce an astonishing 670 horsepower at 8,250 rpm. This was mated with a vastly updated six-speed automated manual transaxle that executed shifts in just 60 milliseconds–40 milliseconds less than the 599 GTB. This special pairing brought the GTO from 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, making it Ferrari’s fastest road car at the time, and a decade later, it is still an astonishingly fast and agile road going machine!
Ferrari admitted that the 599 GTO could lap the company’s Fiorano test track a full second faster than the Enzo supercar, and ultimately designated it as the most extreme sports car to date. The United States was only allocated with 125 examples, making it an incredibly rare site on the roads.
OUR 599 GTO
The example available with us is finished in Rosso Fuoco over a Nero interior and was first registered in September of 2011 and sold to its first owner, Antoine Rizkallah ‘Tony Kanaan’ Filho nicknamed ”TK’. ‘Tony Kanaan’ is best known for his racing exploits, where he was not only very successful, but he became IndyCar Champion in 2004 and then went on to win the Indianapolis 500 in 2013! In four years, the 599 GTO showed a mere 541 miles. Two years later the odometer read 562 miles. At the end of 2020 with just 600 miles shown, the 599 GTO was sold to another local to a local friend of Tony Kanaan’s, where it entered a large and prestigious collection of automobiles.
Now with just 607 miles shown, this spectacular two owner example finished in striking Rosso Fuoco is available once again. Representing an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire such an exquisite, low mileage example with superb provenance from new. Available with us at our Miami showroom location.
