Schaltkulisse began in Ottobrunn, on the southern edge of Munich, in 2010 — its first office and showroom sharing a building with a tyre shop, started on a small loan from the founder's grandmother. The early years were quiet by design: a handful of cars, a photographic studio in the back, a team that grew slowly, on referrals.
In 2018 the house moved to its own building in Taufkirchen — a 1950s potato shed whose original timber structure was kept and built into the new design. The interior was developed specifically for the brand in the style of a British pub: warm, wood-lined, made to be lingered in over a locally roasted Bavarian coffee rather than walked through.
Around fifteen cars sit on the floor at any one time. The morning coffee that had always been a private ritual for the team became a Saturday open-door, and by 2018 it had a name — Caffeine Injection — and the courtyard had outgrown the staff.
Build the room first. The cars will find it.
Today the Munich house holds the larger of the two collections and the original Caffeine Injection gathering, which still runs monthly between April and October. A separate high-security facility nearby — “Ali Baba's cave,” added in 2022 with room for around fifty-five cars — handles long-term storage.
