Built as the last iteration of the 250 GT range, the 250 GT/L, also referred to as Lusso, benefitted from years of engineering, improvements, and refinements gained on the race cars and previous models. Presented to the world during the Paris Salon in 1962, it sported the ultimate development of the short-block Colombo 3.0 litre V12, four-wheel disc brakes, and coil over shock absorbers at all four corners. The elegant and timeless design was signed by Pininfarina, but the body was built at Scaglietti. The Lusso was built as a luxurious GT for the driver and his passenger, while being able to carry all their luggage and devour long distances comfortably. It was a hit among businessmen and celebrities, such as Steve McQueen, but still built in very limited numbers, with only 350 examples leaving the factory.

OUR EXAMPLE
Chassis 4509GT was delivered new in August 1963 through Garage Monteverdi in Switzerland in the color combination of Rosso with a Connelly Beige interior. According to the history file on Barchetta, shortly after its delivery, the Lusso went back to the factory to repair damage caused to the front section of the car, which if true, must have been a light damage, as the Classiche Certificate confirms that the chassis was never repaired. In 1964, the 250 was owned by Michel Lepeltier from Geneva and was kept in his collection until 1990, when he was victim of a car theft with his Ferrari F40 and shot. Following the tragic incident, the Lusso remained with the family until it was seized together with the rest of the collection by the Geneva Bankruptcy court. Auctioned by Bonhams as part of their Gstaad auction in 2003 to Jean Guikas in France, it would then change hands to Pierre Mellinger resident in France, who exhibited chassis 4509GT at the 60 Anni Ferrari Concours d’Elegance in June 2007. Purchased by Paul Osborn of Cars International Kensington and offered for sale by him shortly after in 2008, the 250 was exhibited at the Goodwood Revival Meeting in September 2008. Sometime in the early 2000’s, the 250 GT Lusso was restored by Cairati Monterey (Fratelli Cairati) in Milan, Italy. Owned by the consignor since October 2008 and registered in Switzerland, chassis 4509GT is now finished in the stunning color combination of Nocciola Metallizzato over a Burgundy leather interior. Our example was awarded a Ferrari Classiche Certificate in 2007, confirming that the car is fully matching-numbers chassis, engine, gearbox, and differential.
