Hugh’s career started within the art world at Sotheby’s, London, but his real passion was always classic automobiles and racing cars, passed to him by his father who was a keen Porsche and Aston Martin collector and racer. Hugh spent many successful and competitive years behind the wheel of some special racing cars throughout Europe, including spending a number of years instructing with Silverstone Circuit Racing School in the UK and time in British GT3. It was inevitable that he found himself working more with classic cars than art and decided to follow his passion and a career in the collectible automotive world.
Having now worked in both Europe and the USA, Hugh has helped build a number of notable collections and formed good relationships with collectors from the UK to the Middle East and as far reached as Australia. He continues to strive to meet client expectations with upmost integrity and reliable, consistent honest advice and continues to manage collections around the world. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of the global market, specializing in classic and modern sports and GT cars. Having made the decision to move from UK to New York at the end of 2012, where he joined a major classic automobile dealer, and recently spent time as an independent specialist, he now works successfully with Schaltkulisse and is responsible for our North American showroom located in the heart of Miami, Florida. He originated from a petrolhead family, with his father collecting Aston Martin’s, including the last production V8 Vantage Zagato and special DB4 ‘Lightweight’ race car, his mother driving her ex-Betty Hague 356 A Super on tours, and his brother commuting daily in his Triumph GT6. He often takes part in the biggest and most important car events of the year, especially in the United States. When he is not chasing collector grade vehicles, he likes to spend time with his wife and his newborn.
After drooling over pictures of cars and their performance figures in magazines as a child, and observing every little detail of his scaled model of a 288 GTO which he was gifted as a small boy for being brave at the dentist, Kevin’s dream of owning his own car business was stuck in his mind, so much so that after working for a few years at Ferrari Financial Services, he left everything behind, and with just about enough funds to found a company, he created Schaltkulisse in 2010.
Sylvia came to Schaltkulisse in 2014 as an assistant in the back office. She manages to relieve management of a lot of work and works her way around all the office headaches, things like *cough cough*, the complicated German paperwork. She is always willing to lend a hand, even when she is building her new terrace at home, is happy to take our calls and messages and responds quickly to urgent matters.
Michelle is Schaltkulisse’s youngest team member. When she’s not busy practicing ballett with kids, Michelle takes care of our media design. She joined our office in Munich in April 2021 as a dual student at the IU in Munich to gain professional experience and has been since then making sure that our ads, books, invitations, and everything we print or send, looks the part.
