HISTORY
From the first time since the F40 ceased production in 1992, a turbocharged V8 engine would be used as a powerplant for a mid-engined Ferrari with the 488 GTB. The road/track version of the GTB, the Pista, was introduced in the spring of 2018, successing the Speciale, Scuderia, and Challenge Stradale. A few months after its release, the convertible version made its appearance, called Pista Spider. The Pista Spider made use of an engine directly derived from the 488 Challenge, with a lightweight crankshaft, titanium connecting rods, revised camshafts, and lighter turbocharger internals, outputting a total of 710 horsepower.
The engine wasn’t the only enhanced part, in fact even the transmission received a special treatment, speeding up the gearshifts to just 30 milliseconds. The bodywork was redesigned in favour of the aerdoynamics, generating 20% more downforce than the standard 488. Going through Ferrari’s weight-loss program meant the 488 Pista Spider only weighted 1,380kg, around 40 kilos lighter than the 488 Spider.
OUR PISTA SPIDER
The example presented here left the factory in the mouthwatering color combination of historical color Rosso Dino over a charcoal alcantara interior. The first owner didn’t hesitate to check the boxes of some of the most desirable and expensive options to make his car just not „any“ Pista Spider, but rather an exceptionally well and tastefully specified example. The wheels for instance are the lightweight carbon wheels, which, thanks to their greyish appearance, are a great fit to the brake calipers in Alluminio and racing livery in Canna di Fucile. The interior is also where this Pista Spider clearly distances itself, with the rarely seen options of „dreamline“ in Rosso Dino on the shiftpaddles and steering wheel, a great hint to the exterior of the car. The Cavallino on the headrests was stitched in Grigio Chiaro, contrasting well with the charcoal alcantara and the stitching in the same color. Every non-painted or non-covered part was specified in carbon fibre, and of course, the suspension lifter was ticked on the list of options. The color combination and attention to details make this example a delight to the eyes, unlike the countless examples finished in Rosso Corsa over a black interior.
Our example was delivered new in Germany and has only covered 540 km from new. The front-end profits from a Ferrari protective film. This is a great opportunity to acquire one of Ferrari’s best modern cars and a great addition to a collection of Ferrari’s or even a collection lightweight track-cars.
