HISTORY
Chassis #SL71/20 was delivered on 19.12.1965 to John Mecom in Dallas. One year later the car was sold, and it began its racing life as “Pussycat”. Its American driver and owner, Jessy Crawford, used the car in the Can-Am Cup and SCCA series with many good results. These included some wins and other prizes during the car’s early life. “Pussycat”’s success on the US racing circuit up until 1967 has been well documented through many newspaper articles, ranking lists and vintage photographs. After the car was stored for many years, an email notes its sale in 1992 to Nigel Kemp in the UK. 14 years later, the car changed hands, to David Clark, also in the UK. The next English owner decided to have the car fully restored by Foxcraft Engineering’s Lola specialists.
The last – German – owner, an impassioned collector still active in vintage motor sport today, bought chassis #SL71/20 in July 2011. In the same year, the car won two races at the Trofeo Ignazio Giunti, Imola. It also took part in the 1000 km series in Monza and Le Castellet, and at the Old Timer Grand Prix in Nürburgring. Two further highlights were Goodwood, at the Members Meeting and also the Goodwood Revival. Only Lolas built up until 1965 are allowed at Goodwood, and as chassis #SL71/20 is the last T70 to have been made in 1965, it is also the last Lola T70 authorised for Goodwood. From 2011, the car could be spotted regularly and consistently at smaller events and track days. Regular service and upkeep, for example from Hall & Hall in the UK, have ensured the car’s exceptional, ongoing technical condition and appearance.
